Question:
I am ready to start working out and eating better. I have taken the
initiative to get a membership at a gym, but nutritionally I need some help
also. Would you recommend a nutritionist or a dietician to help me learn what to
eat and how to eat to achieve a healthier lifestyle? Right now, I have only been
able to walk on the treadmill for 20 minutes and then I have to go home because
I am so beat. I do this everyday and have now done it for the last 20 days. It
is a big step for me, but, little by little, things will increase and I will be
healthier. Can you give a beginner any insight though? Thanks..
Michelle, Omaha, Nebraska
Answer: Yes, I can give you advice I can always
give advice. If you heed the advice is
another matter. Let’s say you will. If
you are fat than I wouldn’t recommend walking on the treadmill right now, I
would rather you do begin a strength training program that involves all the
muscle groups of your body concentrating on the legs for now. You need to build muscle in the legs to help
in shock absorption for aerobic activity.
Perform all the strength training first with an eight minute warm-up in
the beginning and increase your aerobics in small increments. Now I have to ask you a question, what the
hell are you doing in Nebraska.
I always heard that
there are only two things in Omaha;… Steers and Queers, and you don’t sound like
any of them.I just had to say that. I think I’m the only guy that loved that
movie. Well, good luck with the advice.
